Popular Hollywood couple, Jennifer Aniston, 49, and Justin Theroux, 46, are separating after two years of marriage.
The decision to go their separate ways ‘was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year’, according to a statement released on Thursday through Jennifer’s publicist.
In a joint statement, the pair said they would continue their “cherished friendship” and would maintain “the deep respect and love” they have for each other.
Aniston was seen celebrating her 49th birthday on Sunday with pals including her Friends co-star Courtney Cox, rather than with Theroux.
Reports had also made the rounds previously that Aniston was spending most of her time in Los Angeles while Theroux was in New York.
In the joint statement, the couple said they were splitting out of a “mutual and lovingly” made decision by both of them.
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation,” they said.
“We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.
“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly.”
Aniston and Theroux married in August 2015 after becoming engaged three years before.
They do not have any children.
Aniston starred in the hit TV series Friends, and has appeared in numerous films such as Marley & Me and Horrible Bosses.
This was her second marriage. She was married to fellow actor Brad Pitt for five years, but they divorced in 2005.
